had a blast celebrating my partner's bday camping on and kayaking around channel islands national park! beaches there were surprisingly clean and didn't find much plastic or other types of marine debris during our trip.

Soooo sad I lost my one and only favorite camping spork that I packed with me (city and backcountry) R.I.P. and hoping I can find a worthy replacement companion soon.

nervous about not being able to track my progress online over course of next 10 days while i'm out of town and away from my computer - hoping team can carry us forth, firmly in 2nd place (if not 1st place) by my return at the end of this month! i believe in all of y'all!

used a (steel) straw for the first time in a loooong time yesterday in my milkshake and realized what a privilege it has been for me to go straw-less for all these years! in the end, i didn't even need a straw to drink my milkshake because it was so chunky with strawberries = privilege!

worked with Chinese Information and Service Center (CISC) again, this time at the Locks and talked about plastic water bottle usage.  I know this group (and many other communities who deal with actual/perceived barriers) when it comes to access to clean drinking water, economic/health disparities, language needs, etc.  My team and I were still able to politely decline their plastic forks as we ate their potluck lunch with them (ha gow, sushi, chow mein, fruit - YUM!) but I know we won't be convincing them to give up their plastic water bottles for tap water anytime soon and I'm ok with that.

purchasing chicken at the butcher last night, they were out of the brown butcher wrapping paper and staffer tried hard to convince me to go with plastic bag as protective lining in addition to the white unlined paper they use to wrap seafood.  i was surprised to learn that even brown butcher paper is lined with plastic!

did anyone else know this? want to dig around for more information/sourcing of safeway's brown butcher paper.

so much easier to make DIY cleaning products with common household products such as vinegar and baking soda: https://www.thespruce.com/diy-all-purpose-vinegar-spray-4158625.  i like using lavendar, tea tree oil, and peppermint oils to boost as well!
