Thank you to everyone who participated in this challenge and to all the zoos and aquariums who said yes and put money up front, sight unseen, to this platform when Columbus Zoo and Calgary Zoo approached your organizations and asked if you wanted to join us in a community effort.  A special shout out to Krystina Jarvis at Columbus Zoo who found this platform and did most of the asking:-).

Awesome job everyone!  I've been inspired and learned a lot--the feed was one of my favourite features of this platform plus seeing our communal impact.  I hope you learned something, were inspired, and will continue to reduce your single-use plastic throughout the year.

See you for Plastic Free July 2019!!

Just in below the plastic-free month wire--the water bottle tote has room for my bottle, steel straw, cell phone, cash, credit cards, keys, and reusable bag. It's the plastic-free warrior handy toolkit.

Super inspiring posts Deanna Snell!!!  There are some really fantastic suggestions here!!!  All the best from the West coast!!! Hope our worlds collide some time soon.  I would love to stay in touch with ideas patti.beer@ocean.org

Receiving this after the challenge is over but so excited, I had to post.  One of my deterrents for carrying a water bottle regularly is that I get tired of holding it in my hand.  Problem solved with this nifty water bottle sling from Chico Bag--not only does it carry your bottle but there's a spot for your reusable chopsticks, lip balm, and a pocket large enough for cell phones, credit cards, etc.  Woot woot.  Here's the link to Chicobag: https://www.chicobag.com/.  FYI:  I purchased mine through amazon.ca though.

Check out what Disney is doing.

Disney Expands Environmental Commitment By Reducing Plastic Waste

By mid-2019, The Walt Disney Company will eliminate single-use plastic straws and plastic stirrers at all owned and operated locations across the globe, amounting to a reduction of more than 175 million straws and 13 million stirrers annually.

In addition, over the next few years we’re transitioning to refillable in-room amenities in our hotels and on our cruise ships, reducing plastics in guest rooms by 80 percent. We will also reduce the number of plastic shopping bags in our owned and operated parks and on our cruise line, offering guests the option to purchase reusable bags at a nominal price. Finally, we will complete our work to eliminate polystyrene cups across our global owned and operated business. These steps are part of our long-term effort to reduce single-use plastics, and we will continue recycling and responsibly disposing single-use waste that cannot be eliminated.

Forgot to mention the staff thought it was awesome. FYI Calgary team--Bite is where they will slice my bread and put it in my bread bag. Bought my deli meat there as well. Next will be cheese either there or Bridgeland (better cheese selection).

It's been stinkin' hot so broke down and bought one of these--ice cubes old school. I'll be travelling Saskatchewan this summer so maybe find more at a yard sale for a lot less.

At the airport and remembered my mug YAY. Got my coffee and cream and they used a plastic stir stick before I could say no BOO.
