Despite some frustrations and ongoing challenges this month has been super enjoyable.  Huge THANK YOU to the organizers and to all the participants.  I've really loved reading all the stories and seeing our collective impact.  Onward to 2019!

How many of you all will miss PFJ and plan to sign up for the Fall challenge from October 3 - 24?  I hope I can get another team together to participate.  Gotta keep our momentum going!

Thanks for organizing this, Sam. I'm ready for the next challenge!

    • Mary Pat Dettmer 7/31/2018 2:09 PM
I want to do this again in October.  You made it very easy to sign up and get involved, Sam.  Count me in!

Last day of the challenge, San Antonio Zoo Crew!  Let's see if we can make a final push up the standings!

  • Sam Peterson 7/30/2018 11:04 AM
I'm actually sad that the challenge is coming to an end.  I'll miss checking the feed to see everyone's success stories and tips.  It's been nice coming here for a lift when it seems like the universe is conspiring to put plastic everywhere!

Hey Sam, shout out from Boston. Great job with the challenge!

Finally had time to watch all of A Plastic Ocean and now I’m depressed!  Movements like Plastic Free July give me hope but it’s so important for industries, not just individuals, to get involved.  The manufacturers producing the plastics need to be held accountable for finding alternatives and properly managing the product’s entire life cycle.

This drought and heat wave has been brutal on my garden, even though it’s mostly xeriscape. 😢 Just hope I can salvage enough lemon thyme for the casserole I want to make tomorrow.  🤞🏽

It's the final Friday of Plastic Free July.  Don't forget to complete your daily challenges and check in over the weekend.  Come on, San Antonio Zoo Crew, let's move up to the top 15!

Only 5 days left of the challenge!  How many of you think the new habits have become permanent beyond July?

  • Sam Peterson 7/25/2018 11:47 AM
Zoo looked very clean on my walk just now. Maybe it’s the new and improved waste stations? 👍🏽

I LOVE these! We need some in Tiny Tots Nature Spot too though. :-)

Shout out to my San Antonio Zoo Crew teammates for the final stretch - let's keep the momentum going!

What's been the hardest part of the challenge for you?  What actions have you completed that you plan to keep doing after the challenge?

My biggest hurdle has been getting groceries completely plastic-free.  I'm 95% there but things like medicine and certain produce items seem impossible to get without some sneaky plastic bits.  Most of the other changes were easier and I plan to continue all of them regardless.  Honestly, I should have started more of them a lot sooner.  Just goes to show how important it is to examine our habits periodically.

Biggest hurdle was my Starbucks obsession and remembering to always have my reusable cup with me. I think I've got it mastered now though. :-)
