Found this nifty little calendar from a similar program to reduce waste:

This was an interesting read: https://santiagotimes.cl/2018/07/27/chilean-company-creates-water-soluble-bag-to-fight-plastic-pollution/

Refusing to use is still preferable, but this looks like a great alternative until we can reprogram ourselves to use less.

It feels like this month flew by, but it has been a great experience learning new ways of living with less plastic and single-use waste! I've been writing down the challenges I like to see if I can make this challenge into Plastic Free 2018!

If you haven't watched a documentary yet, hopefully you received the invite from Kristen Frizzell for a Lunch and Learn on the 31st to watch a documentary about plastic pollution to check that off on the last day of PFJ!

Shampoo bars seem pretty popular right now, and there company that makes zero waste shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant bars with brown paper packaging. A few customers who ordered the products also said that the mailing package had no plastic, so it could be recycled too.

In order to avoid insect sprays and glue traps that could harm our cats, my husband found a super effect way to catch the fruit flies that have recently taken over our apartment. Using a little bit of apple cider vinegar and a couple drops of regular dish soap, we were able to eliminate almost every single fruit fly in our apartment in less than 3 days. I put a little of the mixture in 6 small tupperware containers and scattered it around the apartment. Below is a picture of what we caught after I emptied out and made new mixtures for our traps. Most online sources recommend plastic wrap, but I used paper that I dampened around the edge of the jar with some holes poked in it, though it is considered optional. You can see another post about it here: https://lifehacker.com/5604246/make-an-effective-fruit-fly-trap-with-no-tools-or-cutting

Picking up trash in the rain was so difficult, but it was done! One lady stopped and said I was amazing for picking up trash despite the weather. It was a nice pick-me-up after a busy day!
