Recycle #5

Rumpke does not recycle #5 plastic but Whole Foods does. My goal is to collect #5 plastics and to drop them off at Whole Foods when I'm in the neighborhood.

I still face some challenges with going plastic free.  Today, the last day of the campaign, I used a plastic straw for my milkshake because my bag with my reusable straw was at home.  I signed only one petition this month because that's all I could find.  BUT we are now recycling #5 plastic (I drop it off at Whole Foods once a month.) And we are recycling plastic bags and packaging at Meijer. I have helped spread the word about plastic, and I hope that that has made a difference. I am exploring options for shampoo and other products that aren't sold in plastic.

It feels good to be forming new habits. I still have a ways to go.

I checked out products on two websites: ethiquebeauty.com and packagefree.com. Some good options out there!  Goodful shared a recipe for making your own cloth cling wrap.

I'm dropping off plastic bags and packaging at Meijer when I go shopping today.

We are forming new habits and using much less single-use plastic.

I picked up this bottle on this sidewalk near the entrance to the Zoo. Recycled.

Saved from our waterways! I picked this up in the Zoo parking lot and disposed of it properly.

I have seen a lot of Plastic Free promos on Facebook and I always share them, but I have found only one petition about plastic after doing a search. Has anyone seen petitions?

This isn't about plastic, but I am starting to use an old-fashioned cotton handkerchief instead of paper tissues sometimes. Next on the agenda, cloth napkins.

We have some Ziploc bags that we purchased long ago. I use and reuse the really large ones (2gallon) to organize scrapbooking supplies. I very rarely use small bags. Did you know that you can clean them and cut off the zipper, then take them to Kroger or Meijer to be recycled?
