Thank you to Tom for making the announcement at today's event that we were plastic free and zero waste at the event!

Made my own toothpaste last night!  1 part baking soda, 1 part coconut oil, and some peppermint essential oils.  It was saltier than expected, but overall not bad!  My teeth feel so clean!  It also only took a few minutes to make, and so cheap.  I'll continue tweaking the recipe, but it's great that I can make as much or as little as I want at a time.

Those of us who have taken up the challenge of contacting a public official or company each day, and have actually been successful in it.  How are you doing it?

Email?  Snail mail?  Contact forms?  Are your messages short and sweet, or do they delve deeper into the issues associated with plastics?  I chose this action and haven't completed any days yet!  I like to blame it on having a job, school, and a blog, but let's be real the blog has been sitting idle since July 1 and I'm only working on one paper for school right now, so I have no excuses.  I just don't know where to start!  Help?

I have been choosing a company or local official in our Government everyday. I get on email and send it to them there and many of them I have been getting emails back. Those have been great little surprises in my emails.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Email or Facebook posts on my City Mayor and our state Governor. all others have been emails to company's that have one use plastic. not real short but I tell them why I don't like it and if I can give them a idea for a non plastic way to do it. I get answer emails from them many times. give it a try it feels good... Karen Hempler Woodland Park Zoo #plasticfreejuly

My supplies to make my own lipstick and refill my homemade face toner have shipped! And just in time - I'm almost out of toner!

Had an impromptu cleanup "event" today.  Was going to go for a walk with a friend and suggested we walk behind Tuttle Mall because I noticed a ton of trash by the pond there the other day.  I only took one bag, and we filled it up in only a few short minutes.  Lots left, but we made a dent in the problem, and I'm sure the duck family appreciated it.  I'll definitely be heading back soon!

Could we do something like this for the volunteers as well?

  • Krystina Jarvis 7/04/2018 11:47 AM
Needed to grab lunch, but didn't have time to eat in somewhere and didn't have a container on me. Raided at break room at work, found a Tupperware container, went to Noodles and happily got lunch to  go without any waste. #zerowastewin
