Planning to keep the plastic free efforts  and new habits going!  It's been a good month of learning new things and taking new actions.

Kudos to all those who worked hard to try to be plastic free in July!

Husband shared a summary of  a documentary he watched about diersion of plastics from a landfill to be used in combination with some steel manufacturing.  A successful use of plastic.  While not the answer to the production of plastic, a potential re-use rather than landfill.

Saw great citizens everywhere today picking up litter both in my local community as well as other communities on our mini-road trip!  So gald to see how people care about their communities.

Happy to see that the Food truck at employee lunch had non-styrofoam containers today!

Exciting news... Starbucks has announced that they will stop using plastic straws and will implement the use of the lids with the "adult sipper" that is used with some of their current coffees.  It is estimated that this will reduce worldwide plastic straw use by one billion.  WOW!

Took a pile of plastic pots to a local nursery and they will re-use them.  Felt so good to keep these plastics out of the landfill, and prevent a local small business grower from having to purchase more.

Did a waste audit... and was terrified of the results.  But!  In general, I think there are some easy ways to improve, an my family and I are not as evil as I had suspected.  This also made me realize the items that I can also easily cut back on for recycling, like the catalogs that continue to flood our mailbox.  A reminder that I need to contact those companies to stop forwarding their literature.

The challenge is going better than I anticipated. I have used it as motivation to take the time to research plastic substitutes.  And! While my family teases me relentlessly, they are making changes too.
